Dolgae-baram  돌개바람

Front: A porcelain vase featuring smooth white clay contrasted by rounded black glazed side horns and smaller gold horns. The flame-like eye motifs, piercing pupils, and sharp teeth are finished with 23.5K liquid gold, complemented by subtle lavender glaze accents around the rim.

Back: The reverse showcases a clean porcelain silhouette, where the natural rim glaze flows create a bold contrast against the dark side horns.

STORY OF DOGABI
The story of Dogabi passed down from ancient times was told that Dogabi who had mysterious power as god appeared in different forms and brought luck or punishment to human. They frighten human with a bizarre face, playing mischievous tricks on human with childlike innocence, giving an abundance of life with a generous smile.
* Dogabi is an old Korean word meaning goblin.

  • English: A central inky horn surging forcefully upward in dynamic, multi-tiered concentric ridges like a gathering whirlwind.

• Turquoise glaze brow band and textured cheek fur
  • English: A refreshing sweep of deep indigo-turquoise glaze across the brow, paired with finely combed beast-like fur carved across both cheeks.

Dolgae-baram, Sentinel of the Whirlwind Valley

(회오리골의 파수꾼 '돌개바람')

• English: Long ago, perched on the edge of a sheer cliff where ferocious winds coiled through the canyon all year round, lived a Dokkaebi named "Dolgae-baram," who commanded the primal harmony of wind and water.
  • 한국어: 아주 먼 옛날, 사나운 바람이 사철 골짜기를 휘감아 도는 깊은 벼랑 끝에는 바람과 물의 조화를 부리는 도깨비 '돌개바람'이 살고 있었습니다.
• English: Dolgae-baram had a countenance resembling the fresh green grass of pristine mountain slopes, with bristling mane-like fur across his cheeks and a mystical spiral horn centered on his brow that coiled up passing gusts. Across his forehead ran an indigo band frozen from the deep vitality of valley streams, and he watched for foul omens in the world by rolling great, round orange eyes brighter than lantern flames.

• English: Late one autumn, "Dizzying Gale Spirits"—creatures that sow futile doubt and jealousy into human hearts to stir up discord—swirled up from the valley depths. When these gale spirits breached household chimneys and window lattices, peaceful homes turned upside down, shattering heirlooms and driving families to blame one another without cause.

• English: Looking down on this malicious turmoil, Dolgae-baram leaped boldly onto a broad flat rock at the mountain pass.

• English: As he glared and rolled his colossal orange eyes, the elusive tails of the invisible gale spirits darting through every household corner were instantly laid bare.

Simultaneously, as he snapped his sharp golden fangs together through wide lips, a chilling metallic ring echoed loud enough to shake the rocky mountain.

• English: Swept up in the surging vortex and paralyzed by the thunderous clashing of his fangs, the gale spirits lost their balance, hurtled high into the sky, and scattered far beyond the clouds, never to return.

From that day forth, it is said that ill-fated gales dared not strike any home guarded by Dolgae-baram, allowing peaceful blessings to rest therein forever.
